Food Drives

Without having to rely on any public or private assistance, a family of four living in Denver needs $4,250 a month, or $51,000 a year, to meet their basic needs. For many families, deciding between paying the rent and feeding the family is a decision made more often than it should have to be. With the increasing costs of living in the community, 73,784 households in Denver county are living in poverty and struggle to meet their basic food needs. By collecting and donating food to Metro CareRing, you provide hope by assisting us fight hunger.

How to Organize a Food Drive:

Thank you for assisting us in the fight against hunger by organizing a food drive for Metro CareRing.  The steps for organizing an effective food drive are below:

Food Drive Options:

Metro CareRing appreciates all donations and has three options on how you can help organize a food drive:

  • collect food items,
  • collect dollars for Metro CareRing to purchase food items,
  • or a combination of the two.

You can also participate in a virtual food drive, click here for more information.

Set a date and contact Metro CareRing to organize your drive:

To set up your food drive, contact Martha Parker, Pantry Manager, at 303-350-3663 or by e-mail at mparker@metrocarering.orgto set-up a delivery appointment and to get the latest food needs lists.

Publicity:

The most effective way to get the most out of your food drive is to begin publicizing your food drive at least two weeks in advance. Posters and flyers should list the dates of the drive, what types of food should be donated and that the food will go to Metro CareRing.

What to Collect:

Canned and dry goods make great donations. Oats, fruit, dry milk, macaroni and cheese, cereal, canned chicken or tuna, vegetables, fruits, and pastas are examples of the types of food to collect.

How to Collect the Food:

Put out marked containers in an accessible location to collect food. Copier paper or filing boxes make sturdy, stackable food receptacles.

Deliver the food collected or arrange for pick-up:

Donations of food and toiletries are accepted Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the door marked “Deliveries” behind the Metro CareRing building at 18th and Downing. From 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. please ring the bell by the door and someone will help you.

To arrange for Metro CareRing to pick-up the food, please call Martha Parker, Pantry Manager, at 303-350-3663 or by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
